We've only been certain of the Chr#14 segment matching on matches where data was taken on Ancestry and transferred to another DNA service or originated on one of those other services - where we can see the details of the DNA match. Again, this is because Ancestry keeps those details private. This has kept us from seeing DB's (our Daniel Jacobs descendant) details and confirming his connection to our shared matches with him known to carry the Chr#14 segment. It also has kept us from seeing the data from some of his other Ancestry shared matches who also have not tested on, or uploaded to, another service. We rely upon these people helping us when we reach out to them, and uploading their data to GedMatch or MyHeritage. Recently we scored a major breakthrough in this manner.
The manager of one of those Ancestry matches (who we now call "BVF") has now shared their tree and data with us. The tree revealed that BVF is another descendant of Daniel Jacobs. Transferring the data to GedMatch, we found that he carries the same Chr#14 segment. This is important because it is absolute confirmation (rather than just our previous assumption based on the commonality of our match with DB) that the Daniel Jacobs line carried the same Chr#14 segment as those shared matches. It also allows us to do a detailed comparison of segment size and overlap with the other Chr#14 segment matches.
Two other Ancestry matches with trees have now been associated with Chr#14 shared matches: GC and DC2. These two are special, because they both have Harwood's in their trees and may add to evidence that a Harwood line itself carried the Chr#14 segment. DC2 traces solidly to the Andrew Harwood line via James and Lydia (Barrett) Harwood. After researching GC's tree, it is unclear to us if she is descended from John Harwood of London or Andrew Harwood's line, the same as DC2. GC has the maiden name "Harwood", which could make her assistance in the project of enormous importance by potentially providing access to a male Harwood descendant for Y-DNA testing. Y-DNA data is available in the Family Tree DNA database for an alleged descendant of the John Harwood line for comparison to data from GC's line. Without further confirmation of which line she is connected to, matching data would tell us that either GC is related to the John Harwood line or that John Harwood's line is related to Andrew Harwood's line (though we should get more data from descendants of the John Harwood line to further validate the FTDNA data). We are currently looking for more Andrew Harwood descendants for Y-DNA testing and plan to contact GC to see if she is willing to help us.
